While playing today at a church, I was having trouble with my hand sticking to the neck. What is the best way to beat this. I would like to take the finish off. Has anybody done this or should it be left to a luthier?

Thanks

First thing to try is 0000 synthetic steel wool, some light circular motions will take the shine and tackiness off but leave most of the finish there, and hopefully not look like you scoured it with steel wool

It's easy! Do your research and look at a lot of pictures to give you an idea what you want out of it.

I agree with the idea of doing it stepwise. You can always take more finish off, but putting it back would be 'way harder.

also, the kind of soap you wash your hands with can make a difference, the ones with moisturizer and stinkum can leave a stickiness to you hands.

Very light sanding with super fine material in a motion/direction along the grain of the wood.

After that, you can carry some baby-powder or talc with you, and that will help in terms of your hand.
