Gryphon in Palo Alto, CA has a National resonator mandolin now. I tried it out over lunch today. Improvising in a blues scale...sounds awesome! Now all I need is about $1,500 to add it to my mandolin collection.

I got to play one at a jam. It was great. I want one! It is so loud, you can startle yourself! It is the true banjo killer!

I have #4 that I purchased in February. It has easy action, unlike the old ones, and great tone-loud with sweet sustain. Its great for blues-you can bend notes easily, and is equal in volume to any banjo. The price is very reasonable-I highly recommend it. By the way it is very heavy and has a walnut body. Rich

Hmmm ... very tempting to go down to Palo Alto and take a look. The only problem is, that store is very difficult to leave without buying something & downright painful to visit when broke. They have it listed at $1575 on their web site ... I'd buy it if I could.
