Looking for information on a Kay Mandolin

I know a little bit about mandolins and some companies' history, though this is mystery to me. I've been watching a Kay mandolin on eBay, and it has the (serial number or model number?) L-9841. Does anyone know more about this particular model or the numbering system? Such as why there is an L- prefixed to the number? Does that indicate a particular decade or time period?
