I've been playing for a while, but I was wondering, how do different artists integrate (or perhaps envision) a mandolin integrating into various rock tunes/subgenres? #I can think of several ways, perhaps one to get a tiopic rolling.
REM- "You are the Everything" strongly mando-driven #seems mostly a G-D-G-D-G-D-G-D-C-GC-G-C-G verse with a little vamp during the chorus---5-5-5-5-3-5-0-0-3-2-0---
We could look at Billy Joel's Piano Man, Mat Mundy's crosspicking on Widespread Panic, Rusted Root, or anything else people find interesting.

I think the Leningrad Cowboys nailed it.
