Welcome.

You have a great collection going there.

I try not to spend too much time here myself because of MAS. Contantly seeing at all these great looking Mandolins makes me want to buy buy buy another one.

All in all though it is a great place to hang out and learn. Scott T does a slam bang job of keeping things in order and under control.

Sit down and stay a while.

Welcome to the Cafe. Shame about the peghead on your Gibson. What Gibson model is it?

The label on the photo says it is an F5G.

That same break on the peghead happened to a friend of mine's mandolin. We used Titebond and rubber bands to hold it in place and it seems to be holding strong.

Thanks for the welcome folks...
Yes the Gibson is an F5G with the custom Bill Monroe headstock http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
It's a long story and the fact is I can't stop playing it enough to get the break repaired. Fortunately it was a very clean break and should repair pretty well. It is a great sounding mando which just keeps improving.

hail yellow well met...

I got no idea when it was made other than 'recent'. Is there a serial number list somewhere? My label only has the model and serial number written by hand.
Hope you are as happy with yours as I am with mine. The tone just keeps improving the more I play it and I assume I'm still a year or two away from having it open up fully.
Watch out!...this mando is heading towards sounding just like I want it to...so yeah I'm happy. This'll do me for life.

About getting the dating information, I emailed Gibson with my serial number, and they gave me the info. I'm sure that there is a real order, and that it has probably already been said, I just don't know what it is. Just drop 'em a line, they are pretty timly.

I did a search on the Gibson website and came up with this (http://gibson.com/Service/Serial%20Numbers%20Search/) site. Click on the "Gibson Serial Number Information" PDF. Look near the bottom of the fourth page.
