So, this is a great instrument for those who want to play guitar without learning how to handle six strings ;)

Really? YMMV, I guess, but the tone sounded entirely "octave mando" to me. Same frequency range as a guitar, but the doubled courses give a much different sound, IMO.

I've played it and it is as special as they come. It stood right up to the Gilchrist that is there, although there was a strong difference

Which Gilchrist octave did you play? The Model 4 that is still there (mahogany neck) or one of the now-departed F-hole ones? The Heiden sounds much clearer than Gil Model 4 Octave.
