This has probably been talked to death on the forum, but I'm danged if I can find a definitive thread, so I thought I'd post a new one:
I've had a 1950 spruce-topped Martin A mandolin for many years, but only recently brought it out and restrung it. Since I've heard the Martin mando's aren't designed for heavier-gauge strings, I bought a set of D'Addario EJ73's and put them on the Martin.
I have to say the strings make the Martin sound great and I'm developing a new appreciation for the instrument. However, I want to be certain that the EJ73's won't damage it. I understand that the Martin strings are even lighter than the D'Addario "light set", but I do like the tone, projection, and tuning stability of the EJ73's.
Just curious to hear any comments or personal experiences.
Thanks, all.
