Good evening everyone! Working on an arraignment of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," and wanted to share. I was inspired to create this rendition when I heard John Reischman on that lovely video about his Loar. This is simple compared to his arraignment, and I wouldn't dream of approaching what he can do technically or tonally, but I hope you enjoy. :)

Sounds good to me! Nice to hear you adding your own variations to the tune too. I have tried this tune too, but my attempt was much more of an attempt to copy John's version. Good work :)

Thanks Rob! I love John Reischman so much! He is a benchmark tonally :)

In another thread I posted Eva Cassidy's version. Not to be missed. If I could play like she sings, I will have accomplished everything I want in the world.

Here it is.

If that isn't perfect, its as close as mortals get.

Eva Cassidy is one of my favorite vocalists ever. I feel like it she were in the "Lord of the Rings" she would be an elf signing in the Grey Havens. :)

Eva's finger-picked accompaniment is exquisite as well.

And good recital, Andrew, thanks for sharing!

So, has anyone actually transcribed Reischman's arrangement?

You'll find it on Mandozine.com. But that's just the where the notes are on the fretboard. I haven't been able to find how make it swing like John Reichsman does on the internet - must involve practice I guess.

'don't mean to hi-jack this thread but I can't think of Somewhere Over the Rainbow without thinking of Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole's compelling version of the song. Even though he sorta' mangles the lyrics he manages to raise the song to a new level and the standard version is at a very high level already. Enjoy this if you haven't already, then back to the topic at hand.

I'm taking John's course on Peghead Nation and once you join ($20/month) you get to download his most recent song. Somewhere Over the Rainbow was his July contribution and I've given it a try but his fingering on this particular one is pretty complex. I may never get there with that one!
