For those of you who are in the St. Louis area or can get there next Tuesday evening (May 31), there will be a mando-related concert to benefit a non-profit mando-related organization. The concert will be at the wonderful Sheldon Concert Hall, starting at 7:30 PM.

The concert is called "Down From the Hill," which is a twist on "Down From the Mountain" and a section of St. Louis called "The Hill." The concert is to benefit the St. Louis Folk School, which is dedicated to teaching and promoting acoustic roots music, including old-time, bluegrass, blues and Celtic. Each term, they teach about 60-80 students, from beginners to advanced, of all ages, how to play roots music in ensembles. Thier website is:

For only $10 a ticket, you will get to see "Lonesome Pines," with the incredible fiddler/mando player/singer Thayne Bradford, "The Ill-Mo Boys," with the incomparable Curtis Buckhannon, "The Gordons," who use a couple of mando players, but I don't who they will have with them this time, Tom Hall, who is one of the best fingerstyle blues guitarists anywhere and an ensemble of select Folk School students. A poster for the concert is here:

It will be a great evening of music, in a great venue, for a great cause. I hope to see you there.

Dang! I'll be in St. Louis June 5-7. Anything happening then? I've been intending to ask.

The only thing I could find was:

Sun 6.05 ~ The Augusta Bottoms Consort performs at the Art & Air Fest at the intersection of Big Bend and Lockwood in Webster Groves MO. 1:30

The ABC is a well-established acoustic folk group that does original music. You can find out about them at:

If you want to get together and pick, though, I am up for it!

Pickin' would be fun. Probably the only chance I'd have would be Monday night. I won't be out of the airport Sunday night until 7:30 or so, and I fly out Tuesday immediately after my meetings. I'll be staying at the Hilton on S. Lingbergh, but I'll have a rent car. Just tell me when and where.

Watch for events popping up in St. Louis on Folkfire.org (http://folkfire.org/).

I would suggest, though, that anyone interested in an item listed on Folkfire contact the event organizer listed before attending. I have run into multiple instances of Folkfire's listings being out of date or inaccurate. I have even contacted them about inaccuracies and the listings were never changed.

Keith Dudding is a mando player and teacher and the DJ of the "Down Yonder" show on KDHX. His calendar on the KDHX website has listings Folkfire doesn't and it tends to be very accurate:

One last reminder about tomorrow night. NFI, but it will be a great event with some great mando players!
