Saw this for sale on a UK website and after driving almost 600 miles on a rerun road trip, came home with it.
Apparently it was purchased by a 90 year old gentleman who was blind and wanted a decent mandolin to learn on. The gentleman passed away not long after buying it and his son decided to eventually let it go.
I had been looking for a Flatiron for quite some time but these rarely seen (at least by me) in the uk.
One came up recently at auction but I backed out when the bidding reached £1500 before auction fees. Don't want to give away what I paid for it but suffice to say both seller and buyer are extremely happy
According to the serial number this Flatty was the first produced on 5th June 2001
It's in beautiful condition and has its original case. Now set up to perfection it plates like a dream and sounds stunning. A very different sound to my NF5 but every bit as pleasing to the ear. I haven't been able to put it down since I got it
