I was fortunate to get to jam with a Colorado band and hear their set last night in Chicago - The Railsplitters. They're on their way to DelFest and I recommend going to hear them there or when they come by wherever you are.
They're a very polished group with strong writing and arranging skills to back up their instrumental and vocal chops. What they're doing is not unlike Punch Brothers - a string band platform, stylistically inclusive, wide dynamic range, distinctly nontraditional. Great band.
On the mandolin was a guy named Pete Sharpe, playing all the good notes with a beautiful dark and musical sound on his Heiden F.
