Steve Andersen mandocello #81 is for sale at a Chicago pawnshop:

Contrary to the ad, #81 is not Steve's only mandocello. i have his #82, and i can name two other guys here in Washington who have Andersen mandocellos.

The $5,899 price is rather steep, given that just a few years ago you could get a new cello from Steve for $6K.

It sure is a beautiful looking mandocello. Looks like the nut is nice -- not a good pic but about 1.5"? One thing I do not like as much is that the truss rod pocket is right down against the nut. I think the neck is more subject to a breaking than if it is high up on the head stock.

Is that inlay a flower or a squid? If it is a squid -- worth every penny!

ha! No, it's a tulip, similar to the inlay on mine.

Mine doesn't have the F holes that far apart, though...
