My wife calls it my "regular stash of instrument porn."

She's right.

Daryl - Did you get your decimal point in the wrong place ?. .027" thick is about the thickness of a "D" string !!!,
Ivan;)

Did the Northfield article mention the F2SB, d? It offers the different tonality of an oval hole that some seek, the high build quality of a Northfield that some admire, and the bottom points that some prefer for comfortable seated play. Oh, and there just happens to be a used one in the classifieds: http://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/95014#95014

I agree about the "instrument porn." I just got two recent Fretboard Journals off the "accessories" portion of the classifieds, and I spent the better part of a half hour just ogling the advertisements. Wow! I may have to subscribe just to look at gorgeous instruments...... But I laughed at "instrument porn" - great!

I hjeard a clip of the Northfield F2SB model in the YouTube Adam Steffy Northfield mandolin demo. & i nearly dropped - it's amazing (IMHO). So different from an 'f' hole design & stunning in it's own way. Zip along to 30.29mins into the clip & have a listen,
Ivan;)

There is something particularly enticing about the appearance of that one. It could just be the 'one instrument fits all needs - and looks great' solution.

from a couple years ago, Emory Lester on the Northfield oval hole.
Keep in mind, Emory could probably make Tupperware sound good enough to buy and want to play-not taking away from the Northfield of course.

some oval holes I've tried just have too much going on for my taste, sustain, aftertones, but this one does sound really sweet and round, imo
