saw this in the classifieds and was quickly taken:

i'm smitten with the "old world" look. pulled up a nice video from defunct MacNichols and the Aspen sounded really cool. in discussion with the seller and thinking of pulling the trigger.
i've never held one or seen one. they look light in weight and i'm sure the Weber build is superb. love the burst.
tell me stuff on these please
thanks

Don't you mean pull the trigger? If you pull the plug that means you're NOT getting it, I think.
These were flat tops. Weber no longer makes flat tops. They discontinued the line, I think about three years ago. The Aspen is the regular mandolin and the Sage is the octave. I forget what the mandola was called. I never played an Aspen but I played the mandola and the octave. Very nice. The 1 and 2 designations are trim levels. The one has plain wood and a decal, the two has figured wood and a headstock inlay. The one in the classifieds is customized. They normally came in a satin natural finish, not glossy and not sunburst. This instrument would have to have been special ordered either by an individual or a store. They have good volume and midrange-y tone. An instrument like that would shine for old time or Celtic.

Saw that one in the classifieds, looks like a beauty and a nice price as well. I had an Aspen II a number of years ago - it was my first "decent" mandolin. My one had an ice blue stain finish, quite unusual to look at. It was lovely to play, and lovely workmanship. Sound wise it was on the bright side. I always kind of regretted letting it go, but had to move it along to make way for a Pomeroy A.

I have an Aspen II I play a lot. A beautiful non-Gibson bell like sound. I mine was plain blonde. I had it "cowboyed up". Its a great mandolin.

I always liked the worn denim look of the blue one's like Jill had.

Hey folks
thanks much for the replies. I dug around and found a couple video and its not what I'm looking for-glad I found the video. Its definitely a neat instrument and the one listed in the classifieds looks really nice-John(owner) has some nice pics to send if you are interested.

I had my Aspen II out the other day. I still love that instrument.
A light little box that has such a sweet voice.
My intention was to keep the instrument in dead man's tuning (DDAD), for old time, and in fact I purchased some sugar skull stickers for the case, but...
I in advertently played some classical on it and wow. Its tone just won my heart again.
So I dunno what I am going to do for a dead man tuned mandolin.

If I could find one of those stone washed denim blue Aspens, like Jill had, I would start to shake uncontrollably with MAS. Seriously.

I think mine ended up in Australia, wonder if it's still there?
