I've been listening to a lot of Jack Johnson lately, and since his guitar style drives the rythym of his tunes a lot like a mandolin does, I thought it might be fun to play his music on mandolin.

Has anybody out there been playing any of his songs on mandolin?

(Also, are there any Jack Johnson-like mando recording artists that you are familiar with?)

Done some accompanyment with a friend who does several Jack Johnson tunes. The reversal of a bluegrass beat turns in to a reggae type thing.

I thought the basic reggae beat was the same as BG (bass on 1 and 3, rhythm instrument on 2 and 4) but just much slower. I'm no expert though.

I dig Jack Johnson. I haven't tried any of his stuff on mando yet.

Emphasis on the upstroke, not the downstroke

Yeah you can really accentuates the beat using upstrokes but my point was it's still on the 2 and 4 just like BG (to my ears anyway....)
