Bought it for 80$. No name on the headstock, no serial no., no nothing. Has been played hard and looks 100 years old. Could it be Chicago made? Or from Europe?

Thanks guys.

Made in the US probably sometime after 1900, probably in Chicago, most likely by Lyon and Healy.

They regularly fail to sell on eBay weekly. Maybe $100.00 on a good day.

Could it be a 302 model American Conservatory by Lyon and Healy? It's in the 1913 catalog.

Possibly. Mike is correctomundo on the source. If you have a catalog source you've probably nailed it.

American Conservatory mandolins are some of the best quality / price bargains out there these days.

This is going to sound weird, but I recommend you invest in some Dogal Calace strings (about $25) and a Dogal medium pick (about $2) and you will have a crusher little mandolin. Both available at Bernunzios (http://bernunzio.com).

I set up an MOR Washburn bowl back that way this fall it is a dirty little secret right now. There are cheaper options and it might seem odd to put that money into strings and pick for an $80 mandolin, but it will sound and play good. Real good. For <$120, that is hard to beat.
