Nice drawing!
I'm a little uncomfortable seeing the bridge in place with no strings to hold it there, though.

Yeah I didn't include the strings because they would have obscured the sound hole and I wanted that to stand out. Thank you all for the nice comments.

really nice. you can probably suggest strings around either end and maybe a shadow here and there if you wanted but the stringless version is fine as is.

Eastman 514? Looks just like mine! Very nice

Edit: my mistake, I didn't notice the extended fretboard

Wow. At first, I thought it was an AutoCAD rendering it is so precise. Well done.

I'm not sure what model it is but I do know it's an Eastman. I used a public domain photo.

Thank you. I'm a real perfectionist so I go to extremes to get as accurate as I can.

Hi Christine,

I think it would look great on a tee shirt! Please don't be offended, as I mean it as a compliment. I think it would look really classy on a tee shirt. This is a really nice rendering. Please show us more of your artwork if you have similar pieces.

Thanks! Bob

Hi Christine - That's a real talent to have. Pencil or charcoal drawings have always fascinated me. White chalk on black paper used to be my favourite in art class at school. I worked with a guy at one time who was a pencil art genius.People would bring him a photograph of somebody or even their pets & he'd do a pencil drawing from the photo. The photos were good, but the drawings were alive. Beautiful work Christine (it's also my sister's name ),
Ivan;)

I've never understood how someone can make a drawing. It's like magic, and leaves something permanent behind.

I'm okay playing music, but when I stop, it's over.

Very nice.

One hint: the inside of the ovel hole can be made to look more "hollow" by reversing the light/dark sides vs. the top. The light seems to shine in from the treble side and could thus illuminate the bass side of the interior (like in this example (http://www.zenreich.com/ZenWeb/music/images/mandolin1x6.jpg), where the light comes from the bass side).

You might be on to something... using/adding other instruments and/or various ensembles..."The Stringless Series" :whistling:

I tried doing a heavy metal guitar ... not so good.

Hey, that's after Pete Townshend was done with it - very realistic!

Either that, or it's an early inspiration of Salvador Dali's (https://aidobonsai.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/vw_bluemotion_pz_dali1.jpg)

I don't think there is such a thing as bad art because it's just a form of expression.

I still wish I could draw pleasingly. That is lovely.

I'm similarly befuddled by it. You can see the grain of the spruce on the top. And even the flamey bits on the sides! Never could figure out how people do that with a pencil. It's amazing work!

I like it very much, but it does bother me that there are no strings. We mando players are perfectionists as well....:)

It's nice to see classy mandolin artwork. My wife drew my Aria years ago. It's on my office wall. Cheers, Bill

Good stuff guys.
This is one of mine. It's an oil painting of a drawing.
I this case I think that using an incomplete drawing
makes the illusion more believable.

I love that. I can't oil paint. I wish I could. My thing is graphite. I love the simplicity and its forgiving. Beautiful work.

That's beautifully done Christine. Really lovely detail! Did you use mostly pencil, or powdered graphite? I've always enjoyed drawing with graphite for the detail and nuance you can get with it, but haven't experimented as much as I'd like to. Haven't thought of trying a mandolin, but here's a cod I did a while back "painted" with graphite dust. I'm envious of your eye for symmetry, I've always done better with critters since you can fudge more without it being obvious...

Ha! Well I tried a "clamshell"-style, but that didn't look quite right. Was still designing the "fishtail" type...

You might consider doing a similar drawing, but of a 1922-1924 Loar-era Gibson F5 (which has ff-holes) instead, then silk-screen the image on some high-quality T-shirts and hoodies, and sell these on the Mandolin Cafe classified ads. I know I'd buy one! Or two.

And Lord knows, that will be as close to owning a Loar-era Gibson as I will ever get! ;)
