Hi I'm always seeing all these beautiful shiny new mandolins, but
now let's see some lovingly distressed beauties. It can be purposely distressed
or naturally distressed, I don't care. I just wanna see some finish checking,
lots of dings, warn out finishes, yellowed bindings, and aged hardware. Bare wood!
I used to own a a prototype Gibson DMM, and man do I miss that axe.
I also had a Brentrup F5C that started to really develop some finish checking, and
yup I seriously miss that one too. Anyway I'm not complaining, the box I've got
now has plenty of road marks in it now, I love the thing.
Share yours.... I know we'd all like to see your distressed work horses.

These are are not necessarily distressed, but they are most probably upset that i own them....

Here's my Big Muddy M-2. It's new, although a "blem" sale. So you can guess what was intentionally distressed and what was accidental. :) Also, the front image is heavily photoshopped for added olde-ness and just because I felt like it. (But it looks pretty close to that still.)

This is what my the loar 600 looked like when i bought it. I got it for a good price but they really did distress it bad. I have refinished it, now it looks a lot better

That isn't distressed, that's abused.

That is almost as disturbing as the F-2 I saw, the guy was using a saxophone strap (with the steel hook) stuck in the sound hole! That was forty years+and it still turns my stomach to think about. Proves my thought of "Just because you can, does not mean you should!"

The distressed loar looks like some kind of rodent had its way with it ....

Here is my Eastman 505 (before and after). I removed the gloss and roughed it up a little here and there (it's been years ago and it's now almost a gloss again from handling and playtime). The tone and volume improved (along with a CA bridge), and I think it just looks cool. It's a great mandolin.

If that was a banjo, it would be creepy.

Disturbed master model signed by Earl 'The Pearl' Monroe, who played in a little 5 piece group years ago, vintage restored fence staple for strap hanger after bloody scrollectomy, not sold in stores. But wait!! there's more-peghead scroll repaired with vintage custom horshoe nail and authentic duck tape!

the vega had top cracks, inlay missing but the back and sides were fine, and the neck. so it was a labour of love. got it cheap off e bay. well worth the trouble. I am quite impressed by these vegas. I would love to find an octave138265

You mean the top isn't really made of old wool socks worn without washing until they stood by themselves

Like seeing all these worn out works of art...
Everything is unique based on how it was used, and loved.

Cheryl, I know it's a beautiful Mando and I would've kept it but I had a chance to buy Thiles old dude, I wasn't gonna pass that chance up. My favorite album ever recorded was recorded using that dudenbostel.
