I will be there and will also contact Mike Mullin. I told him about the last one and he was interested if any would happen in the future.

I have tentative other plans for that night. Chances are I won't be able to make this one, but anything is possible.

Let me see if Kevin and Ron can make it. Do you want an guitar player?

Pedal Steel Mike

I definately can't make this one. Hopefully I'll be there for the next one. I'll bring some chord charts for a few tunes.

It would be nice if we can make this a regular monthly or semi-monthly thing. Perhaps rotating locations so no one person has to drive too far every time.

Unfortunately my house is very small and I don't have room for a large (or even medium size) group of people.

We have a bunch of pickers from Saturday's jam at the Blueridge coming as well so we should have a nice crowd.

Jack is Ron available to play bass?

Jack Roberts

More bad news. As you know he has lots of children, and they all have stuff going on, so he sends his regrets.

Maybe I ought to take up bass.

We Still need a bass player... anyone out there?

I can't make it for 3 reasons.
1) I live north of the Grapevine and the drive would be prohibitively lengthy
2) I don't play bass
3) I'll be at the opening of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Randy--thanks for a great evening at your lovely home. Interesting bit of history there.

Nice to have met (or remet in some cases) the lot of you. Rick--that Pruscha was a very sweet sounding thing, as were the Gibsons. And that Collings was a powerful mandolin.

Now the bad news: I have to practice a lot more http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Cheers all!

Thanks again to Randolin

I had to leave early to pick up my son, but here is an almost complete list of the tunes played last night:

Devil's Dream, A
Fireball Mail, G
Jimmy Brown the Newsboy
8th of January, G
Dixie Hoedown, G
Billy in the Low Ground, C
Fireball, G
Bill Cheatham, D
Nobody's Darling but Mine, B
I'll Fly Away, A
Old Joe Clark
Lynch Mountain Backstep, A
Pike County Breakdown
Down the Road, B
Foggy Mountain Rock, G
(then I had to leave)

That Uke was spectacular again.

As for musicians, we had a larger group than last time, but Ron and Kevin couldn't make it, and were missed. I guess there were 4 or 5 full time mandolin pickers, 4 mandolin choppers (those of us who don't know most of these tunes-or can't play them to speed-so we just chopped along.) A Banjo, two guitars, and Randolin showing his virtuosity on guitar, mandolin, and banjo. Also, two vocalists, one bass and one "high and lonesome."

I'll try and make the next one too.

For me, one of the joys of the first jam was that different people had different musical backgrounds, and we all had a chance to play things that were unfamiliar.(Yes there were some trainwrecks, but that's part of the fun.) I hope that we continue to play diverse styles of music. Next time I'm going to bring some chord charts for a few tunes.

Anybody willing to try "Take 5?"

Hey, if you guys are going to make a regular event of it, you might want to post it on the California Bluegrass Association's web site calendar, here (http://www.cbaontheweb.org/calendar/index.aspx).

Plus our esteemed host just started up (at our request) a section for regional events.

Best,
Daniel

I would prefer as much advance notice as possible. I coudn't make the last one because I had a previous engagement. Had I know about the jam earler, I would have been able to reschedule my other appointment.

The more notice we have, the easier it is to make plans to attend.
