This is an musical setting of a poem by Friedrich Schiller based on a traditional German folk tune. This poem was a favourite of Franz Schubert, who composed at least three music settings -- this is not one of the them.
My recording is based on an arrangement for violin and piano by Jan Wolters, which I have rehashed into a trio of two mandolins and mandocello.
