Howdy,
Hope all had a good New Year.

I have been thinking of getting a Travelite case for my Gibson A-9 because of the protection quality and the travel convenience it offers at a reasonable price.

Yesterday I was ready to pull the trigger and get one through Elderly Instruments. I checked with the sales person by phone to make sure that the F style case would hold (and protect) my A model well. He suggested I do not buy it, he did not think it would do the job I wanted; the mando would move around and would have too much pressure on it (the case would not close easily on it). He did not want me to be unsatisfied.

Now I appreciated his honesty but it seems I have read discussions on this board that folks have used this case with an A model and were happy. # #Can anyone offer me their experience with using this case with an arch-top A style mandolin? Will this case work for my A-9? Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. # #I should add that it is my understanding that the interior form is only available for the F style. Is this true?

Thanks much for responding as I am at a loss on what to do…

(sorry for the double post, I was having computer problems)

There is another case at Elderly by the same people that make the Travelite, Saga. It's an oblong for A models.
Look at it here:
http://www.elderly.com/accessories/items/MCKE-AOBL.htm

I too called Elderly on both cases for my Breedlove Quartz, neither would work for me. So I went with a case from Musicians Friend, they listed it as being $70 off MSRP. Seems a pretty good deal for $29. Here it is:

I am still waiting on this one to arrive. I'll post some feedback when it does.

Howdy all,
I thought I would repost this to see if anyone has an answer to the questions in my first post. (Thanks for the case suggestions, but they won't suit me for what I am trying to do.)

I have a travelite and my Breeklove K fits in it beautifully. However, my Gibson 1913 A is too fat at the belly to fit. Ditto on my Alvarez A. For these two, I use a case that is shaped like the mandolin and made out of the same rigid foam as the travelite. I think I got it at either Musician's Friend or First Quality and paid only $29.95 for it. It is so strong, that I fell face first on top of it when I tripped over the rug and never made a dent in the case. The gibson was also unhurt. It is slightly heavier than the travelite, but not much. I actually like it better, as it has a nice pocket on the outside and the travelite does not. I did have to modify the little ledge inside that supports the neck..it was a tad to tall. I just slit the fur, trimmed the top off the foam piece and hotglued the fur back. Good luck.

I have a never-used Featherweight Mandolin Case from Musician's Friend like the ones referenced above by Loren amd Marie for sale if anyone is interested. I'll let it go for $20 plus shipping.

I can be reached at: mandoeman@msn.com

Thanks,
Brad

Whoa!! I was just about to order a Travelite for my Weber(F-style). I thought that they had outside pockets. The Musicians Friend site says-" Roomy exterior and interior accessory compartments." Nobody else's description says anything about outside pockets. Will you owners let me know? I'm also open for other brand options, but it has to be light and not a gig bag. To fit a F-style.

Did the Musicians Friend case ever arrive? #I almost bought one myself, then got distracted looking at all the other stuff they have online. Interesting to see that they raised the price to $39.99 now... I wonder if it was due to hits it received from this thread?
