I'm sorry to report that Tex Logan passed away, late Friday night, peacefully in the arms of his daughter, Jody. I did not know him well, but feel honored to have spent an afternoon speaking with him as I was reporting on Monroe's centennial. And attending his raucous 85th birthday three years ago.
Rest in Peace, Tex.

Quite a fellow.....PhD in electrical engineering.....great fiddle player.....wrote Christmas Time's A Comin'.
Spent a bunch of time at Bean Blossom....and hundreds of other interesting items I am sure...
The "first" generation bluegrassers are fading away.....a great loss
Tex Logan.....an accomplished man a part of bluegrass history. Those recordings from his parties/barbeques are great. A nice man too he was was at a festival a few years back and he heard us warming up and went out of his way to introduce himself and chat for a while.

What a great guy... I remember seeing him many times performing with many of the great bluegrass musicians who would come to NYC in the 60's and 70's. Tex played with them all... even came onstage and tore it up with Vassar and the boys at the Old & In The Way concert In Passaic NJ in 1973... now THAT was a show to remember! He could really bring the house down with Orange Blossom Special and was just the kind of guy that everybody liked... even 'ole Bill! Rest in Peace Tex...

Here's my favorite of Tex's compositions, Come Along Jody, and fun on the mandolin. She (Jody) is hurting pretty bad now. An inspiring care-giver. Memorial service on Thursday in NJ. I don't have the exact details.

Tex's work in the Boston area with the Lilly Brothers & Don Stover, and with the Charles River Valley Boys, was really important in establishing and preserving bluegrass in that "non-bluegrass" climate.

Just home from the Benjamin Franklin 'Tex' Logan memorial. Tex led a long and fascinating life. His colleagues from Bell Labs spoke movingly of the man they knew as 'Ben', a uniquely creative mathematician and acoustics guy - who was known to duck into a stairwell for a quick fiddle tune. And then there were tributes from a good many musicians, present and via mail. I can't name them all, but I'll mention here that David Grisman sent some very nice words. And speaking of mandolin players - Barry Mitterhoff took on the tough job of leading the event and handled it with real grace.
I know of at least one news editor who, when pitched an obit on Tex said, "n'ah… he's just a second-stringer". Boy did he get that wrong. A unique and fascinating man, whose influence, by all accounts, was much wider than his 'discography' might suggest. I feel honored to have met him, and I was glad to pay my respects tonight.

I was on stage at MerleFest when my old friend, Tex Logan, died Friday night. I first met Tex at Bean Blossom in 1971. As a fiddle player, Tex taught me about quarter tones and the notes 'between' the notes. As a friend he helped me be a better man, husband, father. He was all class! Peace be with you, Tex.
