After teaching Special Ed for 7 years Richard decided to become a Registered Nurse (he will never get out of school unless he picks a career!) So in order to get him to stop I found this mandolin courtesy of Ken Waltham. He promises this will be the last one (career or mando?)
The F2 is a fine instrument and we are very proud to be the new care-givers.

Hi Perry, I believe you are correct. Maybe they were switched at one time. Frank Wakefield has Handels on his Loar.

That was once mine, and it has a wonderful voice, Oh if I could only have kept them ALL. The tuners are original, I had bought it from the original owners family (Maine) and it was probally one of the few 1918 instruments to get the Handels. I thought that this year I could jump the main stage and land at Stage 5! #Might take a couple of hard lemonades. #The mandolin sounds like you would expect a 90 year old to sound. #It rings a G chord. #You can let up and it keeps intonating. #Deep, rich, mellow, all describe it. #Sorry we missed MandoFest with it. #It came Tues. #

My understanding is that importing Handel tuners stopped in 1917 because of WW I, but Gibson still had some sets to use. I have a 1918 F2 that has Handels, and I've seen other 1918s with them too.
Great looking mando, btw! Congrats, and for graduating too.

Correct. Handel tuners stop in 1918. I have had many 18's with Handels.

That's great you wrote & told us you were a previous owner. I found it listed on the Archives - was that you who listed it? Or did you, Ken?
I can't help wondering who the original owner was, where it came from and now we have an idea. What a history - wish it could talk.
