Seems to be the season for mandolinettos... this one is sort of fiddle shaped... close cousin to the picture-back guitar shaped ones:

And of course the video, this one has less of the "thick" sound that it's guitar shaped cousins had, and a more delicate bowl-back like sound, probably as a result of the narrower top?

I assume that is some kind of suppressor there south of the bridge to squelch sympathetic vibrations. Was that a problem on this one?

No that's the "string tensioner", used on all these English/German mandolinettos, plus some bowlbacks such as the DeMeglio: it increases the break angle over the bridge. Here's a better photo on from another of these:

And yes, the screws do pull out eventually, and yes they often turn up with the tensioner "gone missing", but they do sound better with it in place.
