I think the yellow cedar looks prettier than the gold. But whatever. The time lapse is cool.

Probably no more than varnish, etc.

I agree with Barry Wilson that the back (quilted maple?) looks better though!

James Curtis makes excellent CBOM instruments. There was a mandola (non-gold) of his in the Classifieds a while back...

James is a good builder and I personally like this instrument. The color combination is quite striking.
