Gryphon Stringed Instruments is in Palo Alto, about a half hour drive. It is worth the drive.

I used to live on the Peninsula. +1 for Gryphon. They had Eastmans when I was last there in December 2013. Their site lists what they have at any given time.

Lots of people like the Eastman "300" series, as good sound for a reasonable price. You have to determine yourself whether you like the "Eastman sound" (not classic bluegrass), and the feel of their necks.

As for "one and only mando," my normal answer is, "Yeah, sure, for now." Haven't met too many musicians who are content with a "one and only" anything. But you sure could do much worse than a MD315.

Gryphon lists a 315 in stock. It's where I purchased my 604, which I am very happy with. They do an excellent job on set-up, and have an outstanding reputation. If Paul Jacobs is there when you visit he is great to work with.
