Just a great instrument...

I think it might've been a one-off?
Certainly not in production...

A National single cone tenor guitar with a truss rod! What a concept.

I love my 1932 Triolian.

I love that finish they used on the body.

Does anybody know any more about this? I talked to a guy at the booth who claimed it was going to be a regular production model, but I think he was just a buyer trying to get me to order through his store. I'd love to get this guitar.

Sorry to deviate a little but what about the Gold Tone MBT Plus Electro, is that a good player? .. looks nice in the pictures!

Yes, I'm the lucky retired fellow who was able to purchase the National tenor pictured above. National sold it to Chicago Music, and I bought it from Chicago Music before National ever sent it to them. National did the set-up, then shipped it directly to me. It's wonderful. I'm working a little to come up with the best string combo for my tuning, which is DGBD (low to high). By the way, I noticed on the Elderly site that they are getting two steel versions from National, and they currently are for sale on the Elderly site. Mine is brass, with an antique brass finish. It also has really nice Gotoh planetary uke tuners on it, so no friction tuners.

Well, I'm glad it went to a good home, even if I'm appalled by the banjo tuning. Thanks for the heads up on the Elderly thing, by the way.

No scratches, but I'm sure it plays better for the experience of being played by all the pros that were in attendance. Thanks.

Here's the Elderly page. It's actually not easy to find, at least I had a hard time finding it. There aren't any pictures, just the description, along with the typical "on order, arrival unknown," but that means Elderly has ordered them at a minimum. By the way, as I understand it, National will only be making them as custom orders, so Elderly apparently made these custom orders. Who knows, though, where money is in play.

Interesting. I have been playing my National RM-1 mandolin a fair amount. I just wrote to National to see if they have any plans or might consider making a tenor guitar version: the RTG-1. I prefer the tone of the wood mandolin to the metal ones. I obviously haven't played the metal one they had at NAMM. I would love one with the same basic look as the RM-1 but with a small guitar-shaped body.

I can't speak for them, but I was told that they had no plans to do wooden bodies, but who knows what they might do if you pay them the dollars. I can say that the brass body tenor I got from them sounds really nice and warm, but it can really kick out the sound if I dig in.

Yeah! That is what I like about the modern Nationals - they seem to have more headroom. You can really push them. I actually have a vintage silver tenor #1 that I do like but if I had one that had similar tone to the RM-1 that would be amazing.

I just discovered that there are now NEW National tenors. Elderly has two. My Q for Rolling Rock or Spruce - are those tuners geared? 4:1? Most old tenors had 1:1, and I can't imagine how anyone could get in tune and stay in tune with 'em. Also, is the scale 23"? Thanks!

No idea on either question--sorry.
Drop the folks at National a line--they'll help you out...

Elderly updated their site so that link above does not work. Here is the current National NRP steel Tenor (http://www.elderly.com/national-tenor-nrp-steel-case.htm). I still can't find it on the national site.
