Not sure of the exact age or history of the Old one. It was given to my now 89 year old Father in law when he was 10 years old and it was a used mandolin at the time. It has a great deep voice. The tuners were replaced but I have the originals as well.

The A-800 Alvarez it a typical F5 knock off that is a decent Mandolin.

The Old One (nice name for it) looks like a masterpiece of understatement - ideal for taking it to an Irish session and playing the hell out of it, leaving everybody in the dust, mouths gaping wide open.

Aren't Tater Bugs bowlbacks?

For those inclined to call their Kalamazoo-Montana-Nashville archtops "Gibbys", the term 'tater bug' (as distinguished from 'tater tot') to refer to bowlback mandolins seems to hold a persistent (and equally annoying) sway.

But you're right Eddie, neither of these are bowlbacks.

Aren't Tater Bugs bowlbacks? :disbelief:

I stand corrected. It is however the term I first heard them referred too when I was a wee lad. :whistling:

I will make sure that none of my 3 children or 7 grandchildren are etched with that gaff ;)
