Has anybody ever played one? I purchased one today, and am not sure exactly what I got. From some internet research, I understand Whit was a fiddle maker who made the occasional mandolin. Story sounds much like the Gene Ivey mandolin I found last year.

An obituary is here: http://oldtimeherald.org/here%2Bthere/final-notes/whit-sizemore.html

From what I could tell from the pictures, the detail work on the mando was a little rough, and I expect the fretwork may not be top notch, but I'm hopeful it'll turn out to be a cool instrument with a good story behind it.

Here's a cool audio clip on Whit's philosophy of instruments/wood: http://dla.acaweb.org/cdm/singleitem/collection/Ferrum/id/381/rec/15.

Harmonist, don't know anything about the sizemore, but I saw your Ivey on CL recently. Did you sell it? Looked interesting, especially the scroll carving.

I did sell it. Went to the owner of the Ivey mandolin two serial numbers lower, which is awesome. Certainly didn't expect to own another similar mandolin this quickly, but you never know when something interesting will pop up in an estate sale!
