Has a Pomeroy been submitted for this year's mando-taste?
That looks fantastic!!!

THAT is a beautiful mandolin. It's color is a little more reminiscent of other Pom's I've seen posted here. I love it. Congrats.

Richard -

You've got #65, the latest.

Out of the 65 Don has made so far, I wonder how many
owners are Cafe members? (besides us)

I'd be curious.

BTW, I simply LOVE the color and lack of 'burst. Really
stands out and enhances the wood, IMHO.

Thanks guys, you are very kind. It really adds to the sweetness when other mandolin lovers take enjoyment in your own chosen passion. I am very pleased with the no 'burst finish and impressed by how evenly Don can do the staining.
It would be nice to have a Pomeroy in the mando tasting, I would like to see Don get all the positive recognition he deserves (IMHO). I would like to hear from any and all Pomeroy owners as well. We already know about 4 or 5 that are here. ROLL CALL - ROLL CALL!

mzbanjo, Great to hear that.
Can you give us an idea of what you are having Don build for you? Inquiring minds want to know.

You were one of these good folks that I counted in my mind when I mentioned we have 4-5 in our midst.
By the way Wah, your #13 has the very headstock that I asked Don to inlay on mine, I like it.
Thanks for responding.

I have no idea when mine is due, probably after May......and that's not a bad thing, gives me more time to hide, er, save the money.

Mar-31-2005, 9:22am
Gotta tell you Neal, I was, uh, covering up the cost, and, well, maybe even the mandolin till the last possible time.
When I finally found my hiding spine and owned up, my wifey just smiled and offered to pay for it with monies she earned from teaching night school for adults.
She sure is a keeper, ooofffaaa!

Great pictures. I have contacted Don Paine for some quotes on some of his models and he is a very nice guy, and reasonable. I have not had the privilege of trying out one of his mandos. Any opinions from you folks who have a Pomeroy in hand. How's the sound? How does the neck feel? From pictures I've seen they look beautiful.

#26 A5, and #43 F, checking in.
The #26 formerly belonged to JJBoone, and he lasted just a few months before returning to the fold.

Yes, I'm trying to decide whether to go with the short neck like an original Gibson F4, or the longer neck...among other things. I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts. It sure is purdy.

Good morning mando lovers,
I received my new BEAUTIFUL Pomeroy F4 on Tuesday. Sad to report that I have been very ill even before it came so I have only been able to look at the case sitting next to the dresser. I hope to spend some quality time with the new little one this weekend. I will have to say that when I opened the case up it was all that I was hoping for and I do love the coloring, yes indeed stops my ticker for a sec.
I hope to give a playing report this coming week.
Congrats sure go to the new folks getting on Don's list, great choice.

Richard -

My visit to the doctor resulted in him giving me a weeks
supply of "Singular" and an anti-biotic. If you haven't seen a
doctor, you might want to.

Meanwhile, we will wait patiently for your review. It will still be there in it's case, aging ever so slightly, as we all are.

Here I am at last with my new Pomeroy F4 in living color, and living now in my grateful hansds. I wish that I could do this instrument the justice that it deserves. I am just feeling very fortunate that I am able to afford to own a work of art that gives back beautiful sounds along with it's visual beauty. Because of circumstances of late I have only been able to spend time with my new Pomeroy for the last 3 days, and I have tried to make the most of it. I just don't have gift of words JML and I am already looking forward to his Pomeroy review - of which I am sure will be all good stuff.
This mondo plays as smooth as I was hoping it would, all up the neck.(as if I were able to pull off a tune above the 7th. Everything I put my fingers on comes out clean and full of sustain, T really love that about the Pomeroy's, the wonderful sustain from all the strings. It seems like all the great makers of mandolins have the gift of their instruments having great sustain and bell like clarity with the notes pulled off the fretboards, and I am of the opinion that Don Paine is right up there with all the great buiders. I feel like I am at last pulling myself out of the same ole same ole rut and am newly inspired to try new tunes and practice more. This is my 2nd Pomeroy(A2) and think I will start sving for one of his F5 models, have to wait and see though cause with this 14 fret fretboard I get the tubby growl and volume when I want/need it.
Well sir, for now back to the beauty in red while my funny honey shops. I am posting a front and back view of #65 in my happy hands. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Richard,

It's great to see you back. I've been wondering how you've been feeling. I did a search for you yesterday and was relieved to see you posted a couple days ago.

That's still a beautiful instrument you have there. Sure wish you lived down the road from me, not a couple thousand miles away. I'd love to hear it.

Stay healthy,

Thanks recklessmando for the well wishes.
I am in top form right now and glad of it. Wished you were closer too, love to hear how this gem sounds while a little ways in front of it instead of looking down and hearing up. (what'd he say?)
Thanks again,
It truely is beautiful,

It is indeed beautiful. I like it so much, I'm thinking of asking Don to do mine in red, too...maybe a darker red, like a blood red.

Enjoy!

Truly a beauty. And your description certainly gives it justice.

I haven't played every mando out there, but Don is putting out incredible instruments.

That red is an eye catcher and gives it a lot of depth.

Feel good, play well, and enjoy!

Thanks for the kind words mando friends.
Kyblue, nice to see you like the re, I have been tossing around blue ever since I saw yours for my next.
When I think about the "blood red" mark metioned got me thinking, oooooo, oooo, that sounds pretty nice indeed. Hope that is your choice in the end Mark, brings up visions for sure.
John, always good to hear from you, a tight Pomeroy family growing.
