I've been asked to pick something at church for Christmas. Any suggestions as to a song that would sound good picked on the mando with a guitar strummed back up. Keep in mind that my skills are somewhere between rank beginner and just plain bad.

Thanks

What Child Is This? (Greensleeves) always goes over well and I think it is a very natural melody to play. There are a lot of tabs and even some free instructional videos. Good Luck!

This was made by Cafe Member Michael Pilgrim. It's great (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?67458-Christmas-Music-Standard-amp-Tab&highlight=pilgrim+christmas).

Silent Night or Greensleves. Silent Night is probaly easier.

I agree with Ky Slim, What Child Is This is a very nice tune for mandolin and guitar. You also might want to check out David Grisman's Christmas Album.

Silent Night in either Bb or C is very nice and relatively easy. Away in a Manger just follows a G scale. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen in Am is fairly easy and almost all quarter notes.

I second the Grisman Christmas album.

I agree with dwc above - "Silent Night" is a very lovely Christmas Carol. Another quite easy tune is ''O Little Town of Bethlehem''.
Until i went back & re-read your OP,i thought that you were after 'tune' suggestions & i was going to suggest ''Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer'' - perhaps not !,

My personal favorite is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen done kinda jazzy like Dawg does it.

This is pretty old, but some of you may not have seen it. It's from a Christmas show we did in 1996. Unfortunately, we lost Nils the banjo player almost a year ago now. :(

Most of the little bits in Dueling Banjos are from Danish Christmas songs, but there are a lot of other possibilities to have fun with it.

There are approximately 93845798209873 Christmas tune books with the notes, the words, and the chords indicated. They all likely have mostly the same 25 tunes or so. :)

"In the Bleak Mid Winter" works well with Mandolin & guitar.
Not too hard or complicated for either instrument
