Hi everybody
Excuse me for my bad english.
I'm new here, I couldn't find a section and presentations so I'll have to bore you with some details ěbout myself... :)
I'm Pietro from Italy (Notwithstanding my nick... it's a long funny story...)
I'm 51yo and after having been far from music for many years (due to a problem with two fingers of my left hand) now I've decided to try to play again... no matter what could be the result... just for fun...

my request:

I'm looking for lyrics for the song "Brother John" (Seldom Scene "Baptizing") a wonderful song that appears wrongly forgotten... :(

could anybody lend me a helping hand?

Thank you in advance...

Pietro (... or "Pete" if you find it more comfortable)

when I want to find lyrics to a song I just type in the title of the song on the web and if it has even been mentioned on the WWW they will come up, Type in "Brother John/Seldom Scene" and it should come up....Might even get a U tube video of it also....

Good luck.....Willie

Brother John

Brother John He’s a poor hard working man
Life is hard but he does the best he can
Prays to God just to thank him for his bread
And the roof over his head Brother John

Lost his wife when the fever came around
A little girl before he laid her in the ground
Was his life and he ( I have no idea)
Heard the voice of God Brother John

Trouble on Earth is ending
All your sorrows soon will be gone
You’ve been a good man did all you could and
Call you home now Brother John

( Banjo break )

Late one day he was workin in the field
Sun was low and the earth was cool and still
Heard his wife callin Come join me now
Fell beside his plow Brother John

Trouble on Earth is ending
All your sorrows soon will be gone
You’ve been a good man did all you could and
Call you home now Brother John

( Mandolin break)
Trouble on Earth is ending
All your sorrows soon will be gone
You’ve been a good man did all you could and
Call you home now Brother John

Enjoy ....

"and he'd die veering aunt" o something similar...

...but my english is not so good to allow me to understand...

That particular singer and or writer takes liberties with the English language by using just a part of a word several times to make the meter come out. For instance he uses 'fore instead of before. I like the song though. Thanks for introducing it to me..... R/

Brother John

...

Lost his wife when the fever came around
A gentle girl before he laid her in the ground
she Was his life and the dying hit him hard
Till he Heard the voice of God Brother John

....

I think I'm hearing the changes above.:)

Oops. I didn't notice that the additions were in the post above.

The Scene's recording of this song also features a wonderful banjo solo by the incomparable Ben Eldridge. It is one of my favorite banjo breaks.
