View Full Version : Rigell A-Plus Deluxe Custom (all black) 1997?

Just recently picked this up on eBay. S/N 1301, which I think makes it about a '97. Custom A-Plus Deluxe in all black. Great sounding mandolin. The review are all pretty much spot on. Not much of a 'woody' tone, but very clean and even. Plays great right off the bat, we'll see how it feels once it's warmed up and after I've tweaked it a bit. Seems like a keeper. I think these are very under-valued in the marketplace (not that I'm complaining).

I think you will love it more the more you play it. I love my Rigel Q. Just a sweet tone with some flat tops, I'm going to try flat wounds next. A joy to play. Congrats.

Any of those I've played I've been very impressed with the bright tone and the easy playability

Cool mando JL.
Sorta Darth Vader meets Bill Monroe.
Have fun.

So far, decent results but I think I can improve this mandolin. Although it came with a couple extra sets of J74's I think it has lighter strings on it right now. It plays really well, but the strings feel too light and it's lacking a bit in volume. Time to start customizing it. All in all, still very satisfied with it in terms of sound for the money.

Really nice looking instrument. Some folks use these for jazz as I recall.

JL - That's a stunning looking mandolin, well worth trying different brands of strings on to get the best from it. If you're after extra 'punch' try some DR MD11 strings - same gauges as J74's,but the similarity ends there !,

You know I recently put the Elixer lights on my Rigel and am completely sold on them, really raises the register.

I took my Rigel A+ (not quite all black, but very dark--almost as dark as the one you've pictured) to a jam recently and the guitar player I sat beside said, "Look, she brought a Ferrari."
