I would like to hear from any owners how they like the blacktop MF's and about the overall view (playablity, sound, tone, feel, etc).
Thanks,
Kevin

I'm playing mine right now, and it excels on all counts. The only negative is that the back and sides are very plain grained. But I find that I never look at the back and sides, I'm too busy playing it and enjoying how it sounds.

This is not exactly an answer to your question but it is related.
I have a sunburst MF and a blacktop MT and I prefer the sound and playability of the MT.

Ken,
Is that an MF5 black top? Let's see the front too, please.
Did you do a little neck work on that?
Thanks.

Yep, it's a black top too. The neck work originally had been commisioned by Jim Roberts who bought this from Mass Street music. After I got it, I took it down on the sides just a little to bring the point of the center out just a little bit. Here's the top. Kenc

Ken's Collings blacktop is a true cannon. Can't wait to play it again at Mandofest, Ken!

Jim, You won't believe what this mandolin has matured to sound like. I wish I were up to the potential of the instrument, but If I ever get there, I'll have a great instrument. Kenc
