New Video: Sarah Jarosz sits in with Michael, Noam, Alex.

I'm happy to premiere a new Twangbox video production from a recent Brooklyn duo gig by Michael Daves & Noam Pikelny. Sarah Jarosz sat in and takes the lead on this fine Damon Black number. Alex Hargreaves joins her on fiddle. She borrowed Michael's old Harmony-made Shutt mandolin and told me it seemed just right for the rough and ready music they were playing that night.

Well thanks. Sarah seems to really like that song, and I do too!

I think Monroe used to perform it, but I'm not sure if it made it onto a studio recording?

I guess I'm just stubborn, but I did some research and find that Monroe did record the song as a single, and it was later collected on an album of songs featuring him and James Monroe, according to the great Rosenberg/Wolf discography. But I believe the song may have appeared first on this album by Don Brown and the Ozark Mtn Trio:

There was a nice thread on DB&OMT last year (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?92176-How-many-of-you-knew-or-knew-of-Don-Brown). And of course Damon Black wrote many great songs, and was a favorite of James Monroe and Porter Wagoner. I like his seldom-performed song, Jake Satterfield, too.

I'm producing two more videos from this show. This one is just Noam and Michael, but it does have mandolin content. I'm pretty sure that Frank Wakefield would say, 'That's just terrible the way they play it all slow and simple like that…'
