Just saw "Muscle Shoals" on Netflix, opens with some mandolin but that's about it.
The rest of the almost two hours is fascinating. Well worth the time invested!

Yep, one of the best of this growing group of behind-the-scenes music documentaries. Also, ""20 Feet From Stardom" (about backup singers), and from a few years ago, "Standing ain The Shadows Of Motown."

There was one about Tom Dowd who was an amazing guy, Atlantic records, electronics genius. I don't remember the name of that one. Released just after he died.

Is this it? Tom Dowd & the Language of Music (2003) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0343107/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1) This is one that slipped past me.

+1 on recent interesting music documentaries. "Sound City" is also great (love the story on the coming together of the classic Fleetwood Mac line-up), and "Nothing Can Hurt Me" is cool if you're into Big Star/Alex Chilton. Alex played a mando-guitar occasionally.
