Well, after many months of debate, research, trial and error, I finally bought myself a new mandolin. My folks live in the NYC area so I used that as a home base and visited Retrofret, and obviously Mandolin Brothers. I must say, I felt like a kid in a candy store.

I finally decided on the 2012 Weber Yellowstone that was at Mandolin Brothers. It came with a Wood Nymph, so I can save a trip to the hardware store. Boy, am I excited to break this baby in!

In addition, I got to try out a LLoyd Loar F-5 for the very first time! Truly a magical experience!

Congratulations!

It looks lovely with the edge detailing. I didn't think I liked violin shaped mandolins but now I do :)

Yes, get on with the fun part. Talking about the fun part should always be second to doing the fun part!!!

Sweet, I like Weber mandolins a lot. Love my Gallitin A. Pardon my ignorance but what is this "Wood Nymph" you mention?

Weber's suppressor of harmonic overtones between the bridge and the tailpiece.

She really is a beaut! Nice response in the bass, but a nice clean percussive chop. When plugged in, I like to accentuate the mids in my mix, and this mandolin really boasts the mids. Couldn't be happier. I don't know what the current state of Weber mandolins is, what with the switch from manufacturing in Montana to Oregon, but if all the reports are true they're still as amazing as they were bwfore the switch. I couldn't be happier with my choice and have to praise Weber and recommend them to all!!

Re.the 'Woodnymph' overtone supressor - you most likely won't need it. I had one on both the Weber's i had (i part-ex'd one).I found that they got in the way of my right wrist & moved all over the place,so i replaced them with rubber grommets. After re-stringing my "Fern" one time,i tried it out without the grommets & it was fine,4 years later it still is. I think Weber include the woodnymph ''just in case''. Enjoy your new mandolin,it's beautiful, & welcome to the 'Weber owner's club',;)
