That has a real nice dry pop to it, sounds fantastic and makes me yearn for my old Kimble F5 and two point back! I would kill to see what that F5 sounds like now some 12 years later, it is #24 if anyone knows it's whereabouts. Love the color on that one too, tell us about it some, is it new?

Nice. I talked with Mike about that tune once since I used to cross Blacks Run on I-81 near Harrisonburg, VA all the time. He said he must have seen the name while driving the bus for Hartford and the tune has a Civil War feel. The Shenandoah Valley had it share of action during the war.

This instrument seems to be a good representation of Will's modern mandolin tone. I have heard him say in a couple interviews that he is attempting to make mandolins with a more traditional "Loar" like voice. I think he is doing a fine job and I certainly hear more midrange emphasis than his earlier more "modern" sounding mandolins. Incredible that these seem to come out of the box with that wonderful old dry woody tone. Doesn't seem like you need to age them for 90 years or so, but I bet they will be sounding even better. Maybe someone will Google this post in 2114 and give us an updated sound clip!? ;)

Sounds great! I am extremely lucky to have just acquired Kimble 2-Point #212 that was owned for 18 months by Andy Statman. Amazing mandolin.

What did Andy switch to? The 2 point was after he was playing a Kimble F5 as I recall. I haven't seen him lately.

I wondered the same thing. He sure does sound good on this Hester!
