View Full Version : Older Collins MT2
I have a chance to get a # 30 ish MT2 made in year 2000. It sounds good and hand carved by Paul himself I'm told. But did they have the formula down at that point or am I missing out on a better sound in the newer ones from what they've learned all these years. I do like it much better for bluegrass than the MT's I've played. Haven't played any MT2's other than this one. I also notice that Adam Steffy plays an MT2's on some of the you tube videos I've seen. Thanks for any comments.

If the sound is good and the price is right I would snap it up. All of the Collings that I have played have been great instruments. If it turns out you don't like it you will have no problem selling it.

"hand carved by Paul himself" ??
Is Paul someone Bill Collings should know?

I bet it's fantastic. I don't think Collings started selling mandolins until he had it really figured out.

I've actually heard that #30 was made by Phil Collins himself.

It was the genesis of a whole new career for him.
