Maybe this is old news but I have not seen any threads on it ... Ive heard from one of James Monroes band members that it is going to the Country Music Hall Of Fame.
Says that Marty Stuart and Vince Gill helped work it out .
Any body else know anything? I heard a price but I didnt want to spout off .

Them Midnight Ramblers better not be spreading rumors....
And there are big ears here and on Comando; surprised that this hasn't been circulated...

That report is not correct. I just bought Big Mon's mando off of EBay, from a guy in Malaysia. I'm going to use it as a beater.

No, no, no. Nothing but silly rumors. I have it on good information that Elmo bought it. He's taking it to the Honker Ducky Dinger Jamboree.

Yeah and he is going to freeze it just like his dad...

I'm starting a campaign to get the mandolin back to Charlie D. (Charlie, if I'm successful, I'll take a DMM as a thank you). My reason is clear, that mandolin has made Gibson a LOT of money and should be in caring hands. Who better than Charlie to take care of it, since he was the one that nursed it back from the grave the first time.

So many good ideas, but alas, April Fool's Day only comes once a year. Hmmmmm.

I heard on the FOX, Michael Jackson was going to place a bid on it. Now his pending bankruptcy has put a halt to it http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Uhhh.... Spoken like the father of small children there, J. Mark.

Reminds me of the day I told a particularly persistent telemarketer that I did not like green eggs and ham. He hung up right away.

I think that mandolin may be too old for Michael Jackson.

You guys are scaring me!

I hope someone buys it and plays it. If they don't
know how, I'll be glad to do it for them.

BTW, have any of you had the privelege of playing
Mr. Monroe's mandolin?

Honestly, if I won the lottery, I would outbid the highest bidder and buy it. I would do the following, based on inspirations I have gotten here on the board:
1. Re-carve "The Gibson" out of the headstock and replace it with the inlay of a topless mermaid
2. Have the fretboard radiused
3. Refit it with the Buzz Feiten tuning system
4. Add a tone gard, arm rest, pickguard, maple bridge and solid tailpiece, all permanently attached with Gorilla Glue
5. Get the top autographed in Sharpie marker by Dale Cater
6. Post a picture of it every day on the "Loar Picture of the Day" thread
7. Use it as a wall hanging in my garage and never play it
8. Entertain myself to no end with the hate mail I would get

I guess there is no real news on the mando since the rumor is now aged enough to be just that?

Mar-16-2005, 5:39pm

OK Guys
Sorry I hav'nt got back ,I've been a little busy .
I should have posted this in the form of a question (sorry).
I'm not trying to spread rumors ,I heard the story from a very reliable source, someone in James band who has been up till now, right on the money.
I was and am still hoping it's the truth and was just hoping someone else had heard.
