Caught it on my way to my lesson with Bruce Graybill. I liked the line about "You don't join a mandolin orchestra for a year, you join it for life".

Well, I don't agree with all the journalist's conclusions but it's always nice for orchestras to get some exposure.

I caught about the last minute of this segment yesterday and was bummed out as a result. Thanks for posting the links to NPR and NYT. Brings back a lot of memories playing in the Providence Mandolin Orchestra and traveling to Manhatten to play a joint performance with the NYMO. Barry was still playing then ('98 or 99). Lucky and Jim too iirc. Congradulations to the New York Mandolin Orchestra for finding a way to make it work for the last 90 years!!
