I am taking a road trip with my wife & daughter( she'll be 10 months) to Asheville, NC this summer, and thought I might stop at this festival in Virginia... It looks pretty good..

Anyone been there or going this year?

I went to College in Blacksburg, VA (Go Hokies!) and am familiar with Floyd but not Floyd Fest. Floyd is a bit of an anachronism for farms and arms country in Southwest VA. It is an artsy community. The line-ups for the past two years have been top notch (Last year had Del McCoury Band). Their website for this year looks sweet too.

As far as scenery goes, the blue ridge mountains in that part of the world can make me weep they are so beautiful. If I had the time I would go.

I'm going to the Floyd Fest this year. Never been before but I have heard from several friends that it is one of the best festivals in the country with top bands and performers. I want to take a camper and am looking for one to buy now otherwise will be camping with a tent.

Its just a skip and jump for me. But there is a more local Festival going on at the same time down the road from me. Some friends of my wife's family put on a BG festival every year at the end of July.

May try and get up there one day and split the weekend.

The season is coming upon us. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I've been to Floydfest the last two years. It's totally fantastic. Situated on a 500 acre farm in the beautiful Blueridge mountains with great vendors, a bon-fire, childrens activities, delicious food, not over-crowded and great music. Over the last two years I saw YMSB, Nickel Creek, Larry Keel, Sam Bush, Reel Time Travellers, Tony Rice, Dawg, Mike Marshall and Darrol Anger, Railroad Earth, Lost and Found, and many other less known bands that were great. It's totally cool...big time.
