Here's a small lot of instruments from Gary Ryther Auctioneers in Missouri. The Strad-O-Lin mando isn't that interesting, but there is a '46 D-28! This is kind of a low-profile place to find such a sought-after guitar.

I'm sure it'll go for a bundle--some of them farmer's carry a big wad of money in their bib overalls! My story from 30+ years ago: I was at a rural outdoor flea market and a guy was just unloading his pickup truck. Buncha junk, then a see an old guitar with no tuners, no case, looked like in was all smoky from being near a fire. I grabbed it and could just barely make out CF Martin on the peghead through the soot. I had a little business card in my wallet that listed Martin serial numbers, I looked it up and it was a 1946 D-18, very rough, but I thought, "I finally found me an old Martin!" I asked the seller how much for the ol' guitar? He said buddy that is a 1946 Martin D-18 and I want $1500 dollars for it. Would be a steal today, but seeing that it was 30 years ago and I probably had $30 bucks in my wallet, I put it back in the pickup truck and left disappointed.

$10,000 is a bargain starting bid, of course, but if we can find this auction there are at least a few other vintage guitar hungry folks out there with deeper wallets.

It's funny you say that Jim. I saw an old buddy this weekend and he said "I found an auction up by your house and the guy is selling a 1946 D-28". I said yeah apparently everyone knows about it.

They did a good job with the photos. Shows all the damage and non original parts so there won't be any surprises for a buyer. There appears to be a big nasty crack by the added strap pin. I would call this one a player's instrument so I would definitely want to hear it before buying.
I am probably wrong but, I will be surprised if it gets one bid.

Apparently sold for $10k.

The Stradolin for $110 the Bacon 5 string banjo for $130 and the Gibson TB1 banjo $100 were great prices.

Apparently sold for $10k.
With the emphasis very much on the "apparently". Auctioneers are very reluctant to admit an item hasn't sold.

Unless the auction house is lying:
Having had much experience with auction houses, museums, appraisers, certificates of authenticity, and notarized affidavits, and rednecks, in general, I can honestly say they all make our politicians in Washington seem honorable.
