Anybody ever try to scallop the tone bars like on a guitar top? Any idea what the results could be?

Brentrup does this . I can't tell you the results.

Oliver Apitius uses scallop tone bars also on his mandos
I once played a mandolin my friend built with scalloped braces (F style). I had nice trebles but was weak on the bass and it didn't seem overbuilt to me.
