I've just received these two amazing mandolins and thought I would show off some eye candy.

First up a Pava A player in gloss blonde finish.

Not TOO soon, Ivan. I'd love to get my hands on them when I visit TAMCO late next month......:)

Trevor,

Are the tuners on that Girouard F5 Grovers?

That's a beautiful instrument; would love to hear a sound bite...

I'm 99% sure they are Grovers Nick but I'm sure Max will confirm or deny this.

Yes Grovers. I don't have anyone to record sound clips at the moment.

It's a pity Fairport Convention missed these. You could have had some great sound clips.

That Girouard F-5 looks sweet! That should go out the door quickly.

I just found this thread and as the proud owner of the Girouard, thought it appropriate to close it!
I had a fantastic time at Trevors, I started with open ears for whatever appealed to me, regardless of appearance. I tried Webers, Collings, Sorensen, Phoenix, Kristufek and a bunch of others and the Girouard stood out among all for richness of tone, punch and playability. Obviously all my personal opinions but I'm chuffed to bits and delighted with my decision - and thats what matters!

Welcome to the family of Girouard owners!

Congratulations!

Did you get a chance to play the other Girouards that are listed on Tamco's site? How did they stack up? What is the top wood used?

You do realize that you are a very lucky person to have all those mandolins in one place to try.

Play it in good health!

That is the only blond Pava I have ever seen (and I live in her hometown)...beautiful. The flame on the Girouard is fabulous.

Hi John,
I'm not sure the others were there back in early July. If they were, I missed them which is a pity as I would like to have compared.
I don't even know what the top wood is though I was suprised by the width of the graining. I shall endeavour to find out...

I agree we are fortunate to have TAMCO in the UK even though it was a two day trip to get there, spend the day in the toy shop and return home again.

Dave, congrats on the purchase of one of our mandolins. That one was a beauty for sure. The top is a piece of Sitka spruce that we got from Spruce Bruce, it is a rare one piece. The big leaf maple was from Spruce as well. You can email me if you would like any more info on it. Happy pickin'

I have John Hamlett's #13 mandolin with a one piece sitka top and one piece big leaf maple back. When I looked at Trevor's photos of Max & Lauri's F I said to myself that has to be some of that sitka. The grain is so far apart. Betcha the sound of the Girouard is fantastic.
