Summer is coming so Im making a new, actually a 'latest model' brazilian rosewood mandolin hat out of this $10 washburn. Well, of all things, I ran into this sharp-ended trussrod right where my third eye wants to be. Never ran into this problem before. Anybody find a steel trussrod in a bowlback before? May have to use a chin strap to make this puppy balance out right.

Bill thats the "windproofer". Ya just drill a slightly bigger hole in the center of your head and wala, your hurricane proof. (now don't forget to rub some Mink oil into it to make it waterproof, ya don't wanna go messin up your "do"!http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

No no no. You put it on and point it down and it tells you which direction to go to find water. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

No No you guys got it wrong it is a very large soup spoon.

The rod is there so that you can spear spuds when having potato soup. At some point a lucky dinner gets a real taste of what it was like to own an "old-time" Washburn.

Remember to keep the heat down on the stove as the old hide glue can really make the tatter soup rather tacky. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Most of the Washburn bowlbacks had this steel rod. There should be a number on the neck block too - or is it gone?
