While I believe this to be an "ethno instrument", I kinda doubt its claimed African origin. I think that stringed up contrivance might have been made in Naples (in Italy, not Florida) as a Carnevale prop.:grin:

That looks like either a soprano or toy kora which is an African "double-bridge-harp-lute." I'm currently recording my buddy Will's solo kora album. It's an incredible instrument.
