I am so grateful that we are blessed to have their music! That is classic!

What really gets me is how relaxed they both are. You can see the mutual respect they have for each other, I wonder if they were close friends in life?

Ha. I should've posted it here also when I ran into it the other day. I saw those two names and went "WHAT?!" and clicked the video. I enjoyed every second of it. Sure are some legends! Both are my inspirations along with many, many others.

For audio only (and better quality audio) check out Smithsonian Folkways "Bill Monroe and Doc Watson Live Duet Recordings 1963 - 1980". Same songs and tunes as in this clip plus many more. Fantastic stuff.

Remember that Doc is from a younger generation than Bill. In fact Doc grew up listening to Monroe Brothers records in the 1930's. So the respect Bill shows for the younger Doc is remarkable. I think it's due to the facts that (1) Doc was real country, like Bill; (2) Doc had some hardship in his life, like Bill; (3) Doc respected and could play the old-time pieces, but at the same time investigate jazz, like Bill. And Bill was always appreciative of a good guitarist!
