My customer's got a pretty sweet little thing going on here -- lots of punch & cut but all with that clean and clear bowlback spirit.

More pics & a soundclip at the blog post (link). (http://antebelluminstruments.blogspot.com/2014/02/c1920-dewick-bandonian-wood-resonator.html)

Egh? What? How does that even work? Cool though.

Think of it as a banjo rim with a wood top -- it has some arcs cut out of the bottom of it which let the sound out into the banjo-style backplate.

That is a beaut, Jake. I have never seen one in person. Very cool. Paul Hostetter built an octave mandolin (http://www.lutherie.net/no_bows.html) based on M. Iucci who may have some connection with the DeWick instruments.

Do you keep detailed dimensions of these instruments Jake. Even some forensic photos. I would like to have a go at making something like this. I'm sure there won't be plans anywhere :-)
