That scroll belongs in the worst scroll thread. But it is "rare".

And just think, it can be all yours for the low, low price of only $1,400.

Hideous... unsalable at any price.

It's been discussed (disgust?) before on here .... looks like the price is an order of magnitude higher this time, though.

Always invest in good quality instruments. They just keep going up and up :))

Yeah, it was on the Phoenix Craig's List not long ago, but I think the price was only $200. I wonder if it's the same seller, or if someone picked it up off CL and is now trying to flip it for big bucks.

That "tailpiece" is a gem of its own.

The whole thing strongly suggests you shouldn't play it ore else you'd suddenly look like Jim Carrey...

That is just plain ugly! Oh my. Yes, the tail piece is a real piece of work, ain't it? I wouldn't pay $14 dollars for that, let alone $1400!

It is clear some time and work went into making it. Was it a prison project or part of a therapy crafts workshop at a mental institution?

It's a cargo cult (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargo_cult#Pacific_cults_of_World_War_II). Some indigenous pacific woodcraft artist once saw a mandolin, liked the sound and desperately tried to call the experience back into existence. As such, it is form over function, a reverse cigar-box mandolin if you will. Find the man, play your mandolin to him and they will carry you around the village on their shoulders, insisting that you are John Frum.

I'm concerned that whoever made this might be inspired to make another, lol!

I'm more concerned that whoever made this might be inspired to find this thread on Google and do his post #1 ~:>

Either this, or he is a long time Cafe member, enjoying the taste of his own tongue in cheek. Pete, is that you? Pete Jenner? Didgeridoodolin gone wrong?

That mandolin is the best advertisement for not smoking that stuff.
